Becoming an Evangelist

Laura out on the streets

Our Evangelism Consultant, Laura Brett, shares about when she first heard the call from God to be an Evangelist:

“I had a definite calling to be an evangelist when I was 21 years old. I remember there was a distinct transition where I got a cloak of boldness, to go out and share the Gospel with others.

I was saved at 13, but it was when I was 21 I really felt the Lord say, “You need to do this intentionally.”

And a few weeks after that, I actually went out onto the streets at Easter with two other friends from church and we did a dramatic performance of The Passion, and we shared the Gospel with others during that time. And I felt empowered to do it, I loved doing it. I didn’t feel nervous or anxious.

It was a definite calling and an anointing from God to go and be bold, preaching the Gospel with others. And for the last 25 years, I’ve done that. Whether it’s been on a plane, whether it’s been in a taxi, on the streets, one to one in a coffee shop… I love to share the Good News of Jesus with others.

I don’t think it’s anything to be frightened of, because God empowers us to do it. He tells us to do it. And He gives us the confidence and the words to do it if we pray.

And sometimes I remember I can be that person that tells the other person the news about Jesus for the first time, and that gives me such joy!”
