Praying with power

What is the Lord doing?

The Lord is bringing us into a place where we know what it means to pray with power.

Settling for less…

There is a form of the religious spirit that doesn’t stop us from praying, but it causes us to settle for less than what the Lord has for us. It puts a ceiling over our expectations of what the Lord can do.

The promise of Pentecost

The promise of Pentecost is that we would receive power: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (‭‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭CSB)‬‬

‘Dunamis power’

The power that it speaks of is a ‘dunamis power’. Some liken this to dynamite, but it could never have meant that to the readers, as dynamite had not been invented! Also, dynamite is explosive and destructive.

The ‘dunamis power’ spoken of here is miraculous power to effect change. It is the power imparted to us for ministry and to see the church built. It is what the Lord expects us to be walking in and seeing in our prayers. It is His enabling power to see His Kingdom released in and through us in our lives, our families, our communities and the nations in which we live.

The expectation is that we would lay hands on the sick and they would be healed… that when we pray, things happen.

It requires courage

This place of power requires us to be intentional and tenacious (Matthew 11:12). This requires courage and bravery (just like Joshua). It requires a heart positioned to listen to the Lord, meditating on His word, knowing that the Lord has given us every place we set our feet.

A Kingdom confidence

This isn’t triumphalism, but a Kingdom confidence, an assurance that the Lord wants to use us.

This begins with prayer.

Praying with power is about knowing the one who promises that He is with us, and that He will do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine.

We are in a battle, and that battle begins with prayer. It is an assurance that the Lord is who He says He is: Almighty, All Powerful and Desiring of us to be His Spirit-empowered ambassadors.

Prayer

Lord in your mercy, we ask that you break off any religious spirit that has put a ceiling over our expectations of what you can do.

We pray that you would stir our hearts again today to be a people of prayer, knowing that you want to release your power, in us and through us, in Jesus name. Amen.
