Joel and Alicia Barwick’s journey of faith and ministry began at The Belfrey in York, where they met in the youth group. After marrying in 2019, they moved to Newcastle as a part of a new church plant in the city centre, St Thomas’. When they arrived, St Thomas’ had an average weekly attendance of just 12; today, that number has grown to over 400.

Alicia, a gifted worship leader, has been instrumental in shaping the worship ministry at St Thomas’. Alongside her church leadership, she has dedicated much of her professional life in Newcastle to working as a schools and community worker. Joel is employed as the Youth Minister at St Thomas’, overseeing all ministry for young people aged 9-18. Together, they are also part of the leadership team for New Wine’s youth ministry and are active in an Eden team on the Byker estate, living missionally to reach the poor and marginalized with the gospel.
